Being a Deacon Today

Description

With bishops and priests, deacons form one of the Church’s three historic orders of ministry, yet the diaconate is often seen as simply a probationary period before priestly ordination. This richly rewarding book explores the biblical roots and distinctive nature of diaconal ministry, with the aim of restoring its unique and special significance. Being a Deacon Today sets out a renewed vision, focusing on the places, the strands and the actions of diaconal ministry: in the Church, the world and at the margins in liturgy, pastoral care and as catechists in praying, loving and remembering. An important volume that will enlarge the Church’s understanding of one of its key offices.
