Hearing the Call

Description

For more than forty years Nicholas Wolterstorff has been intensely engaged with issues of liturgy, justice, and how to live faithfully as a Christian in the world. This volume brings together a choice selection of the many influential popular and semipopular articles that Wolterstorff has written throughout his career.***??Hearing the Call*** includes a moving interview with a Christian Palestinian bishop exiled from his homeland, perspectives on the controversy over women’s ordination, reflections on whether the Christian liturgy has a place for lament, and a discussion of whether Christians can be patriots. These pieces – thirty-nine in all – make clear why Wolterstorff is one of the church’s most incisive and compelling voices.

What is the Word of the Lord for a world of injustice? What does it mean to hear the cries of the oppressed? What does liturgy have to do with justice? These questions have been at the heart of Nicholas Wolterstorffs work for over forty years. In this collection of essays, he brings together personal, historical, theological, and contemporary perspectives to issue a passionate call to work for justice and peace.
An essential complement to his now classic Until Justice and Peace Embrace, the forthcoming Love and Justice, and Justice, this book makes clear why Wolterstorff is one of the churchs most incisive and compelling voices. Between the Times invites us not simply into new ways of thinking, but a transformational way of life.
