Product Description

  • Khata () is a traditional ceremonial scarf in Tengrism and Tibetan Buddhism. It originates in Tibetan culture and is common in cultures and countries where Tibetan Buddhism is practiced or has a strong influence.
  • The khata symbolizes purity and compassion and is worn or offered with incense on many ceremonial occasions, including births, weddings, funerals, graduations, and the arrival or departure of guests. When given as a farewell gesture, it symbolizes a safe journey. When given to arriving guests, it symbolizes a warm welcome.
  • Tibetans used to give animal skins as gifts, as there was no silk in Tibet. According to Bon historical tradition, during the reign of the ninth king, Degong Jayshi, people wore sheep wool around their necks for religious rituals. This tradition has been passed down ever since. Over time, people began to make scarves and use silk. Thus, the scarf replaced ordinary sheep wool, and people wore scarves around their necks and heads.
